5 Reasons Why Having a Blog on your Website is Important

Okay, the irony is not lost on us that we are writing a blog post on why writing blog posts is important for your website – yet it’s been over a year since we have updated our own blog. Now that we have addressed that elephant in the room, let us explain ourselves with our tail somewhat between our legs – we were busy.

So busy working on our clients’ websites, that we began to neglect our own. But instead of hanging our heads in shame, we are here to let you know that we get it, sometimes we ALL drop the ball. It’s never too late to start (again!) and there are so many important reasons why you should just do it. So without further ado, let’s dive in, shall we?

1. Having a Blog Sets You up as an Expert

Want to show your clients and peers that you know your stuff? A blog is the perfect place to do this. Stop standing in the shadows and start to position yourself as the authority that you are.

Share your insights with your audience through writing educational and informative posts that will show them that you are an expert. You’ve probably already got heaps of informative content on your socials that you can repurpose for blog content. Why let it get lost on the grid?

2. Keywords (SEO)

Blogs are amazing for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). SEO is basically your website’s ranking when users search keywords on a search engine (e.g. Google). Insert targeted keywords throughout your blog posts to make your content more discoverable to your dream clients.

Doing some keyword research will further enhance your results. Need some help with that? Take a look at our SEO services here.

3. Domain Status/Authority (SEO)

This also relates to enhancing your website’s SEO. Through referencing reputable websites throughout your website’s blog, your domain gets more ‘points’ from search engines. You are showing that you are making links to legitimate websites, and therefore your website is legitimate.

Search engines love this use of ‘backlinks’ and will reward you with a higher ranking. Bonus points if you can get reputable websites to reference your website on their blog as this is also a great way in building domain status.

4. Convert Traffic to Leads

Use your blog posts to market your services, but do it in a clever way. Provide valuable content that informs and educates your audience, and at the end include a plug to a service/product/blog post that you offer.

5. Traffic Compounds over Time

The more views a blog post gets, the higher it will rank on Google. The higher it ranks on Google, the more views it will get. The more views it gets… do you see where we are going here?!

Your website traffic compounds over time due to this cycle, meaning that a valuable blog post you create now could potentially be one of the highest drivers of traffic to your site for years to come. We have had clients whose top ranking pages on Google are old blog posts – the gift that keeps on giving!

Bonus reason – keeping your website fresh and updated through adding blog content is also great for SEO!
